There are times we have all not been good

5 years ago, I did 5 projects in a row for a major oil company and saved them $200m. For the 6th project I took on something too big without truly knowing enough about what I was doing, which was not good. I never been asked to work with them again.

This year I was asked by a CEO after one successful project if I could do another one. I assumed I knew what they were talking about because I had done what they needed before for someone else. I was wrong, what they wanted was 5-10x bigger than any of us imaged and they are 4 months behind the planned go-live. This was really not good and it’s my fault.

Sometimes we just focus on surviving

As a business owner sometimes, I focus on just keeping the wheels turning and when we get a break, it’s all about downtime for me, recharging before the next go round. For many years, I really did not do anything to help our world. I was just happy to be here.

But we can always strive to do the right thing

I have a project today that is eating my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My team have been working round the clock for months to get it to excellence. I have decided to pay out of my own pocket to deliver the goods and make this client thrilled. Not fun, but it’s the right thing.

Inspired by a client that saves billions of gallons of water, I have decided that Dylan Gray Consulting will support the Kasanka Trust. I have never met these people and probably never will. Nevertheless, it is the right thing to do.

Why Kasanka Trust?

Kasanka is a conservation park run by the local people of Zambia. They do an amazing job of protecting wildlife, promoting biodiversity, and sustaining the local economy. But what is most intriguing about Kasanka is the local community’s dedication to continuously take care of the natural world around them, people and animals alike. They perform this amazing job through the mission of “Tourism for Conservation”, where they use funding from tourist attractions and donations to sustain the community, but with the aim of being deliberately present to take care of the animals. This is a mighty Good deed, and we hope that through our support, we can be an active part of their value to show love to everyone and everything, and continue to encourage them to do the fine work they do

To that end we are donating 10% of our annual profits to the Kasanka Trust and ask that you look and see if you are moved to engage with the wider world for good.
